Overview
An excellent bowing preparatory exercise.
Watch
Practice
Practice this 10-20x per day if you are new to cello playing. That might seem insane, but if you keep your bow out in your apartment, pick it up whenever you walk by and do this exercise for 30″. If you’re watching a TV show or chatting on the phone, practice this exercise at the same time.
Common Pitfalls
Pitfall #1: Squeezing the bow as you move it away from your body. Keep your right hand and shoulder relaxed and get used to the sensation of keeping your fingers flexible as you move the bow away from your body.
Pitfall #2: Tensing your right shoulder as you do this exercise. Watch yourself in the mirror and keep your right shoulder relaxed as you move the bow away from your body.
