Overview
How to find your bow hold.
Watch
Practice
Practice this 50x per day if you are new to cello playing. That might seem insane, but if you keep your bow out in your apartment, pick it up whenever you walk by. If you’re watching a TV show or chatting on the phone, practice finding your bow hold at the same time.
Common Pitfalls
Pitfall #1: Not spending enough time practicing finding your bow hold. See practice, above.
Pitfall #2: Trying to put the bow on the string too early and produce sound. Spend more time building confidence and muscle memory picking up the bow before trying to put everything together.
Pitfall #3: Straight index finger. Instead, keep your right index finger slightly hooked over the stick of the bow.
Pitfall #4: Squeezing/hyperextended thumb. Remember to keep your thumb softly curved or straight, but never hyperextended.
Pitfall #5: Collapsed right hand / right hand slumped to the pinky side of the hand.
